What are some ways to focus on one's inherent goodness instead of flaws? Like actions that one can take? Especially when it comes to porn.

I guess I am too used to taking actions based on flaws, because focusing on inherent goodness seems like it would lead to stagnation/complacency instead of change. But you've clearly experienced differently.

I appreciate the question!

I guess my first question would be: if you're up for it, what's your faith background like / current conception of the divine like?

My faith background is International Church of Christ. My (as simplified as possible) concept of God is that He is our all powerful creator who wants to have a personal and love-centered relationship. And from that relationship would spring the lifestyle and good deeds that are excepted of a follower of Christ. Fruits of the Spirit and all that. What else would you like to know?

That makes sense, thanks!

I think it mostly comes down to basking in, and letting our sense of ourselves be shaped by, God's love for us. The more we can experience this love, the more experiencing it can change our own focus away from our flaws and into our inherent goodness.

Have you heard of Curt Thompson? I really like this meditation from him: https://curtthompsonmd.com/reflections/luke-322/

I've heard similar things from people who I really respect, but its been hard to see that happening in my life. I'll take a look at that meditation. Thanks!
